The Europa League draw was made on Friday afternoon, with Toulouse, who employ ex-Reds sporting director Damien Comolli, drawn in the same group as Liverpool.

Liverpool had a difficult season last year, finishing fifth in the Premier League and missing out on a spot in the Champions League this season as a result. Over the course of the upcoming season, the Reds will participate in the Europa League, and on Friday afternoon, the tournament’s group stage draw was completed.

The Anfield team will be grouped with LASK, Union SG, and Toulouse in Group E. With Liverpool’s upcoming excursions to Austria, Belgium, and France being reasonably comfortable rather than being forced to go further afield, Jürgen Klopp will undoubtedly be pleased with the draw’s decision.

Due to a sort of reunion, the matchup with Toulouse will be very intriguing. RedBird Capital Partners, owners of Liverpool and the Boston Red Sox, paid $677 million (£533 million/€623 million) to acquire an 11% share in Fenway Sports Group (FSG), which owns the French club, in 2021.

Damien Comolli, who was Anfield’s first-ever sporting director, is the club president of Toulouse. When Liverpool changed ownership in 2010, FSG appointed the Frenchman, and John Henry sought guidance from a certain Billy Beane about who to choose at the time.
