Neil Mellor has pinpointed exactly why Alexis Mac Allister is a perfect fit in Liverpool’s engine room after the No.10 put in another eye-catching display in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

In his regular which is now available to , the former Red analysed an impressive outing from the Reds at Anfield.

“I thought it was a really good atmosphere and the players responded to that as to what was a really comfortable victory,” said Mellor.

Mac Allister is class, he really is. It must be said that he adapted very quickly and understands what is required.
“He can win the ball in the sixth, his edge is so controlled and consistent. Winning the ball back is something he does very well, but when he does he can also pick a pass.
“He sees the picture, he knows what’s around, and he covers a lot of ground.”

Mellor was also keen to highlight the performance of Joe Gomez, who helped the Reds get their first clean sheet of the season with a back screen. “Joe is an experienced player who has been at the club for a long time,” he said. “For me, what stood out about Joe’s performance was how much he won the ball back for us and I really thought he was in. He also did well when he went to the right when Trent had to go.

He came off the bench in Newcastle and performed very well, containing the threat of Ollie Watkins and Moussa Diaby very well along with Joel Matip.
