Liverpool have radically transformed Jurgen Klopp’s squad this summer. Eleven stars have left either on permanent deals or on loan, but many may regret leaving Anfield after the Reds’ positive start to the season.

Former Fulham player Fabio Carvalho had a difficult loan spell at RB Leipzig. The Portuguese youth international, sent to Germany to earn regular playing time, earned a place in the national team. Carvalho played just six minutes in Leipzig’s opening day 3–2 Bundesliga loss to Bayer Leverkusen. He was unused in their next two league games and played just once in the Super Cup.

The 21-year-old could have seen more game time had he stayed at Anfield. He now faces an enormous battle to become Leipzig’s number one starting XI.

Long-serving midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was one of several stars released at the end of last season. The experienced former Arsenal man has struggled with injuries in recent years at Liverpool.

Having left Merseyside, Oxlade-Chamberlain could expect to be inundated with offers from mid-table Premier League clubs keen to give the talented player a chance. But none of these proposals came to fruition.

A transfer to Besiktas followed, but as the Turkish club only play in the European Conference League, you doubt whether the Englishman would want to stay in the Premier League.

Fans may debate Jordan Henderson’s motivation for moving to Saudi Arabia – but was it really worth it? The former club captain would have featured in some of Liverpool’s opening games despite claims that Klopp had not done enough to convince him to stay.

Ethical meritocracy and accusations of hypocrisy continue to be debated. But when it comes to sporting achievements, Henderson has done himself no favors if he wants a guaranteed place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

Gareth Southgate questioned the speed and quality of the Saudi Pro League last week. With outstanding talent breaking through the midfield, there is no certainty that Henderson will be playing for the Three Lions in Germany next summer.l-Hilal vs Al-Ettifaq – Saudi Pro League

Jordan Henderson has faced criticism over his move to Saudi ArabiaKalvin Ramsay had a miserable first year at Anfield. The Scot, who was supposed to support Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, instead picked up an untimely injury and missed most of the campaign. Ramsay is now at the back and has been sent out on loan to Preston to continue his development.

But the 20-year-old has already suffered a setback with a knee injury which is said to require surgery.
