Darwin Nunez could have left Liverpool this summer after they offered him a trade for the former Chelsea striker, according to a shock report

Liverpool have reportedly had a swap bid rejected for Darwin Nunez and Chelsea flop Joao Felix.

Portugal striker Felix scored just four goals in 20 games when he joined Stamford Bridge on loan in the second half of last season, and the Blues’ £10m loan deal fell through when he returned to parent club Atletico Madrid.

The 23-year-old has failed to impress in the Spanish capital since his £114million move from Benfica in 2019 and has returned on loan, this time to La Liga rivals Barcelona, after his one-day deal expired.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Anfield chiefs were interested in signing him last month before the move went through – and were prepared to let Nunez leave in return.

Felix is said to have turned down a move and also turned down other Premier League clubs Manchester United and Aston Villa as his heart was set on Barcelona. It was her childhood dream to call them and so she burst into tears at the reveal.

The report is sure to raise eyebrows considering the Reds paid £64.1m for Nunez just a year ago, which could rise to around £85m with add-ons. His placement was questionable, but he still scored 17 times in 46 games.

However, he only started one of the initial four games of Liverpool of the season, preferred by Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota. Jurgen Klopp spoke after scoring two goals against Newcastle in a 2-1 win. He said:

“I understand the question, it is clear that he is not happy. It is early in the season, we have to find stability and results. He will play, there is no doubt about it. We need everyone. We have to find a way. Play . ”

It’s a new team with new key players. It takes time. He scores two goals and doesn’t get a smile on his face. It was very important for the team. You need these things together.” You can’t force it. I enjoyed it at the last minute.”
