The Reds’ pursuit of Inter Milan midfield maestro Nicolo Barella hit a brick wall earlier this summer, with the Italian club deeming him “untouchable”

for any club, including Liverpool.
However, recent ECHO reports from CaughtOffside suggest that the Reds could have another chance to sign him next year, with a price tag of around £77m.

The pursuit of Barella was intense during the summer transfer window, with Chelsea and Newcastle United also competing for his signature. However, Inter Milan stood firm, refusing to part with their prized midfielder.

But the landscape could change in 2024 and Liverpool could find themselves in a more advantageous position. Reports suggest that Inter Milan could be more open to negotiations next year, which could offer Liverpool a chance to secure Barella’s services. His contract with the Serie A giants expires in 2026 (Transfermarkt).

Nicolo Barella is considered one of the brightest midfield talents in European football. His combination of technical ability, tactical awareness and relentless workload make him an attractive proposition for any top club, including Liverpool.

Barella for the Reds? The 24-year-old Italian has already showcased his talent in the major competitions, including the UEFA Champions League and Serie A, and has been a consistent performer for both Inter and the Italian national team.

However, the situation has changed dramatically since Liverpool were last in the market for Barella. The Reds signed Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch. While Barella’s technical prowess is unsurpassed,

securing Liverpool’s services would mean our current midfield four of Stefan Bajcetic, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones could battle for playing time.

The prospect of Barella joining Liverpool is sure to excite fans, but only time will tell whether or not the Reds pursue the option next year. The ever-changing landscape of football transfers means that various factors, including team needs and financial constraints, are carefully considered when making decisions.
