West Ham fans suspect Jesse Lingard could soon return to the club after they released their final Premier League squad.

Lingard has been without a club since the end of last season after seeing out his one-year contract with Nottingham Forest.

The former Manchester United star enjoyed a hugely impressive second half of the 2021/21 campaign at West Ham, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 16 games in a campaign that saw them qualify for the Europa League.
Hammer boss David Moyes confirmed to TalkSPORT that Lingard has been training in east London since leaving Forest.

The Scot said at the time that there was “no real update” on his situation at the moment, but fans believe the 30-year-old could be back soon.

West Ham announced their 24-man squad for the first Premier League season on Thursday, saying: “Clubs who have not filled all 25 places can at any time sign and register free agents who are without a club under the terms of the Premier League. League -approval.”

Lingard, who played 232 games for Man United, scored just twice in 20 games for Forest last season.
Should he make a permanent move back to East London, he would join a West Ham side who have impressed so far this season.

The Hammers have won three of their opening four Premier League games, including a 3-1 win over Chelsea.

Moyes’ side are currently fourth in the table and if Lingard returns to his old West Ham form, success could certainly go the way of the Hammers once again.
