Hwang Hee-chan slotted in with seven minutes on the clock in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Molineux, providing the hosts a lead they held until early in the second half.

Cody Gakpo’s close-range finish from Mohamed Salah’s assist brought the Reds level, though, and the latter then set up Andy Robertson – Jürgen Klopp’s captain on the day – to tuck in a cool 85th-minute effort.

And substitute Harvey Elliott helped to increase Liverpool’s sudden lead with a strike off the post in stoppage time that was given as a Hugo Bueno own goal, ensuring a fourth consecutive victory.

Team news

Jarell Quansah made his first competitive start for the senior team, deployed at centre-back with Joe Gomez moving to the right side of defence in place of the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool: Alisson, Gomez, Quansah (Konate, 82), Matip, Robertson, Mac Allister (Diaz, 46), Jones, Szoboszlai, Jota (Nunez, 56), Salah (Gravenberch, 90+3), Gakpo (Elliott, 56).

Unused subs: Kelleher, Endo, Tsimikas, Bajcetic.
The first half

Wolves started the match brightly and their early attacks brought the opener within seven minutes.
Pedro Neto drifted down the left side of the Liverpool penalty area and swept a cross to the far post where Hwang was on hand to tap low past Alisson Becker.
Wolves moved down the right and then created a similar chance for Neto, who deflected over the line under the watchful eye of Gomez before Diogo Jota shot too high from the center of the second box.

Neto swept wide another effort at the end of the counter-attack as the hosts had the most promising chances. Indeed, Gary O’Neil’s side could have doubled their lead on 34 minutes. Neto beat Gomez on the wing before passing a cross to Matheus Cunha, who misjudged an attempted header from close range and let Quansah score

A patient move from Liverpool saw Robertson play down the left channel. The skipper of the day picked Gakpo but the number 18 couldn’t quite touch the side leg.
Gakpo headed Gomez’s cross into the stands in the final minute of the half and a flurry followed at the break, with Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai seeing shots blocked after Jose Sa stole Robertson’s pass.
Second half

Klopp brought on Luis Diaz for Alexis MacAllister early in the second half and within 90 seconds the Colombian nodded home Robertson’s kick-off.
But the Reds equalized in the 55th minute. From his final attack, Jota fought on the edge of the area to feed the ball to Salah, whose right-to-left cross found Gakpo to touch home.

The visitors had already prepared a double substitution, which they pressed after their equalizing goal, goalscorer Gakpo and Jota were replaced by Elliott and Darwin Nunez.
Sa was quick to deny Nunez after going one-on-one with Diaz in the box, with Liverpool now firmly in the lead entering the final 20 minutes of the contest.

With time running out, Wolves’ appeals for Joel Matip’s handball – and a penalty – from Nelson Semedo’s strike were turned down and Quansah conceded the knock.

However, there was still time for the Reds to make another spectacular late comeback away from home as Robertson produced a sharp long-range one-two with Salh to slide into the box and poke the ball under Sa to make it 2-1.

And in the first of eight added minutes, Elliott Bueno took a touch to fire a 20-yard shot inside the right post – the third of Salah’s arrangements to cap a very satisfying afternoon that also featured new midfielder Ryan. Gravenberch makes his debut in the final moments.
