Liverpool’s youngsters overcame a second half scare to secure all three points at Blackburn in the U18 Premier League.

The Reds hit the front foot early as new signing Nyoni followed up his friendly exploits in the opener at Brockhall earlier this month.

The 16-year-old joined from Leicester last month and has already settled comfortably in Liverpool’s academy.

He made a dream start in his new surroundings, finding the net three times in a 10-0 pre-season win over Southend.

Blackburn’s deficit was doubled when Wellity Lucky headed home from Ben Trueman to put the Reds 2-0 up at the break.

Jayden Danns looked set to take the lead for the hosts just before the hour, but quick-fire goals from Matthew Litherland and Zack Stritch made for a tight contest.

Lucas Houghton looked to have completed the comeback with a late header but it was denied by the linesman’s offside flag.
The Reds were able to hold on and the game was decided in the dying moments when Trent Kone-Doherty caught Afolami Onanuga on the ball to create doubt. That leaves Liverpool with nine points from their opening four games in the U18 Premier League and they will be hoping to continue this positive form next weekend.
