The lesson learned from Liverpool’s victory over Wolves on Saturday, according to former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol, is that they won’t win the Premier League this year.
The Scotsman is however adamant that the Reds are the ‘strong favorites’ to advance to the Champions League.
The club had a challenging first half away at Molineux after falling behind in the seventh minute. Despite Wolves’ struggles to maintain their lead, the deficit could have been more than one goal.
At the conclusion of the game, he said: “I’ve got to admit, I was thinking about this, and the first half is what tells me the reason Liverpool won’t win the title this year.
“However, I believe they are strong favorites to finish in the top four because of the second half. To me, that pretty much captures Liverpool.
“Better teams will be too far ahead of you [to stage a comeback] if you keep showing up away from home and performing the way they did. They are fortunate that Wolves decided against taking a chance.
