Alexis Mac Allister, a summer acquisition for Liverpool, put on yet another erratic performance and was taken off at halftime in the team’s 3-1 victory at Wolves on Saturday. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been asked to reevaluate how best to utilize the player.

The Merseysiders spent £145.2 million on additional midfield players throughout the summer, with World Cup winner Mac Allister the first to join in what seemed to be a bargain £35 million deal from Brighton. The 24-year-old, though, has had a challenging start to his career at Anfield. Mac Allister was taken off the pitch at halftime of Liverpool’s match at Molineux on Saturday after receiving a red card on his home debut against Bournemouth, albeit the decision was later reversed after an appeal

Since then, Klopp has acknowledged that Mac Allister was the cause of Liverpool’s disastrous opening 45 minutes.

There are, in fact, mitigating factors, such as Saturday’s worn-out performance. Additionally, Klopp probably erred by starting Mac Allister against Gary O’Neil’s team given that Allister had just returned to the UK early on Friday morning after participating in an Argentine team match against Bolivia at a high altitude.

Tony Cascarino now believes there are further reasons for the Argentine’s underwhelming performances for the Reds. The pundit believes Mac Allister is being forced to play out of place as Klopp figures out how to effectively line up his new-look midfield, especially with Dominik Szoboszlai having an immediate impression.

Cascarino reveals he feels a lot of compassion for the player, who he believes is being pushed to play a position that is far too deep, in light of his awful performance at Molineux.

Cascarino said on talkSPORT that Liverpool “were awful in the first half, looked lackluster.”

“As I indicated previously, [Alexis] Mac Allister was obviously jet lagged. Although he played for Argentina on Friday morning, he appeared to be lifeless and unable to move around the field.
