Leicester’s consolation came from Aileen Whelan with the last kick of the game, after Teagan Micah’s first penalty was deflected into Liverpool’s goal.

The Reds provided all the early threat and it was almost three minutes in when captain Taylor Hinds crossed from the left and striker Sophie Roman Haug headed just wide.

It was a stoppage time penalty for the home side, with Matt Beard’s side leading on 12 minutes.
Marie Höbinger’s left corner could only be cleared on the edge of the Dutch box and the Wales international curled a fine effort past Janina Leitzig into the Leicester goal.

Six minutes later, the lead was close to being doubled. Höbinger intercepted the pass as Leicester tried to play and Haugin slid in, whose precise finish connected directly with the post.

The pair were at it a little later when Haug’s clever piece gave Höbinger a good look at Flint, but the striker curled a left-footed shot wide of the post.

On the half-hour, a brilliant ball from Rachael Laws sent Hinds into the Reds’ left-hand corner and Höbinger sent the cross narrowly wide.

It took nearly 40 minutes before Laws needed a proper save. He prevented a decent attack from Leicester’s Jutta Rantala when a cross on the left brought a dangerous ball into the penalty area.

Liverpool ended the half in the lead when Holland provided another threat when Höbinger’s cross went just over the bar. It took just eight minutes of the second half for the visitors to double their lead, and again a chance opened up at the back end of the set.

Pike headed Höbinger’s corner into the danger area from the right and Flint was on hand to turn it home at the back post.
