Although he is not the fastest player in Premier League history as has been claimed, Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai may not be far behind.

Szoboszlai has become a fixture since Saturday’s 3-1 win over Wolves when his lung-bursting run was intercepted and past Pedro Neto on the stroke of half-time.

The clip led to sensational claims on social media that the Hungarian had scored the second fastest goal in Premier League history.

Szoboszlai was expected to finish behind only Kyle Walker, whose 37.31 km/h was said to be the only sprint to beat his 36.76 km/h at Molineux.

According to Opta, Szoboszlai’s sprint speed of 36.76km/h ranks third since the start of the 2020/21 season, trailing only Walker (37.31km/h) and Luton’s Chiedozie Ogbene (36.93km/h).

Over the last three seasons and into the new season, the 22-year-old has surpassed Antonio Rudiger, Brennan Johnson, Adama Traore, Mohamed Salah, Tariq Lamptey, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Anthony Gordon.

Furthermore, only five players have covered more ground than Szoboszlai this season, according to Steele.

Only Dejan Kulusevski, Bruno Fernandes, Philip Billing, Declan Rice, and Rodri have run more in the Premier League.

Szoboszlai has run at least 8.2km more than any of his teammates, with Andy Robertson (49.5km) coming in second.

Salah (47.6km), Alexis Mac Allister (43.9km) and Luis Diaz (36.9km) make up the rest of the top five within Jurgen Klopp‘s squad.

This comes after another Szoboszlai statistic went viral over the weekend, with the No. 8 shown to have contested 30 more duels in his first five starts than Jordan Henderson managed in the same period last season.

Not only is he jogging and working hard, but the £60 million signing also scored a magnificent goal in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

Szoboszlai also played a key role in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth, winning the penalty for Salah to make it 2-1 and having his shot spilled into Diogo Jota’s path for the clincher.

According to FotMob, only Salah (2.1) and Diaz (0.8) are anticipated to have more assists this season than Szoboszlai (0.6).
