Nottingham Forest latest news: Steve Cooper’s Reds draw 1-1 with Clarets in Premier League clash

Nottingham Forest’s Callum Hudson-Odoi celebrates after scoring
Callum Hudson-Odoi scored on his Nottingham Forest debut as the Reds drew 1-1 at home to Burnley.

The visitors were first to try their luck at the City Ground, Lyle Foster’s effort comfortably saved by Matt Turner. But the Reds, who switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation in their first game since the international break, began to show their attacking threat.
Steve Cooper’s side started to put some nice moves together.

His effort was blocked by Taiwo Awoniyi who then stepped in for Hudson-Odoi. However, Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford was equal to the debutant’s strike.
It was a frustrating night for the hosts. It lasted until the Hudson-Odos magic was felt. Set up by Awoniyi, he found the top corner with a shot to make it 1-1.

Burnley thought they had taken the lead through Foster but the goal was ruled out for handball. Claret man Ryan Yates was then sent off in added time for an elbow, but Forest were unable to make their numerical advantage count as they had to settle for a draw. Here’s how Reds reporter Sarah Clapson rated the Forest players at the City Ground.
Matt Turner: He couldn’t do much with the opener. Made some serious stops though with the new looking guard up front. Rating: 7/10

Gonzalo Montiel: forgettable league debut for the Argentine. No doubt he’s better than he showed this time, but he didn’t have half a rough night. Rating: 5/10

Joe Worrall: Could have done better in the opening round but had to crash. The back four had a tough time. Rating: 6.5/10

Scott McKenna: He breathed a sigh of relief after Foster’s strike was ruled out late on. It was a huge disappointment for the Scot after being caught out. Rating: 5.5/10

Ola Aina: proved to be a good addition since joining. Another consistent performance, his ability to switch sides proved useful. Rating: 7/10

Orel Mangala: The new-look midfield partnership will always take some getting used to. Receiving a very soft and controversial booking in the first half did not help the Belgian. Rating: 6.5/10

Ibrahim Sangare: It looks like he may take some time to settle the signing deadline as he has barely trained with his new teammates. However, there were positive moments. Rating: 6.5/10

Callum Hudson-Odoi: What a great way to celebrate his Garibaldi debut with a good strike. It seems that there is already an absolute agreement to close the deal. Rating: 7.5/10

Morgan Gibbs-White: Still getting fired this season. Vigorous all the time and can’t fault her efforts, just needed a little more peace sometimes. Rating: 6.5/10

Anthony Elanga: a well-deserved place in the starting line-up for a full-back. In the first half, forced saves and contributed to promising offensive games. Rating: 6.5/10

Taiwo Awoniyi: Second game in a row in which the striker assisted. It still has a big impact even if it doesn’t make the charts. Rating: 7/10

Nuno Tavares (for Montiel, 54 min): Helped change the game when he came on and took his place on the left wing. Rating: 6.5/10

Ryan Yates (for Mangala, 71 mins): Unlucky to lose his place in the XI and Forest missed the bite he offered. Rating: 6.5/10

Divock Origi (Hudson-Odoi, 71 minutes): I didn’t really have a chance to make much of an impact in the closing stages. Rating: 6/10

Chris Wood (for Awoniyi, 88 mins): Added some presence but no winner this time. Rating: 6/10

Outside: Vlachodimos, Kouyate, Santos, Dominguez, Niakhate.
