Liverpool may believe Roberto De Zerbi is the perfect replacement for Jurgen Klopp, following club legend Jamie Carragher’s glowing assessment on Monday Night Football. Many Liveprol fans certainly do.
The Italian has flourished since joining Brighton last year and has quickly risen to become one of the best managers in the Premier League.
Liverpool fans have had little reason to worry about Klopp’s future in recent times, despite speculative links with the German opener.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss signed a contract extension with the club last year which will now see him continue until at least the summer of 2026. With the Reds pouring money into rebuilding their squad in recent months,
Klopp feels he now has plenty of new faces to chase titles – and is therefore unlikely to leave of his own accord.
Despite Liverpool’s supreme faith in Klopp, they will be looking to see who could succeed him in the Anfield dugout when that moment comes. Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and club legend Steven Gerrard have both been touted as possible candidates due to their club history, although De Zerbi’s success at the Amex Stadium is hard to ignore.
The former Sassuolo boss had Brighton play some of the best possession-based football in the Premier League. He recently put both Manchester United and Newcastle to the sword with impressive tactical performances.
De Zerbi was also instrumental in guiding the Seagulls to Europe last season and will be able to prove his mettle in the Europa League in the coming weeks against Ajax and Marseille, who Brighton love to play against. Since arriving in England, Carragher has constantly sung the praises of the Italian boss and how he turned the club from a visually pleasing but ineffective side into a ‘big six’ side under Graham Potter.
