Shane Duffy remained philosophical after Norwich City’s 2-0 defeat to title favorites Leicester and believed their performance showed they were moving in the right direction.

The Foxes capitalized on a catalog of mistakes when Stephy Mavididi won a Christian Fassnacht penalty on the stroke of half-time – Kelechi Iheanacho converted on the spot.

Kasey McAteer secured three points late on to cap a slick counter-attack. But Norwich matched Leicester for long periods and closed out the second half. It was a contest where David Wagner highlighted the difference in the quality of people between the two sides.

Duffy remains hopeful despite their first defeat at Carrow Road, believing they will continue in the right direction despite Wednesday’s defeat.

“They have a strong team. We know that and everyone knows that. I felt very comfortable against them tonight,” said Duffy.

“They are a good team but we are not far from them, I tell you. It was only a few moments and to go down at half-time means that everything changes.

“I had a butt. Kenny hit the bar. We didn’t have enough attacking threat in the first half and it felt like we defended a lot. We respected them too much. It’s one of those — do we follow them when they have so much individuality?

“We covered it and I didn’t feel like it had much. That’s me being there. Their bench tonight is a Premier League team, let alone a Championship bench.
“We’ve got a long way to go and we’re regrouping, but we’re going in the right direction.”

Norwich are now looking for a quick turnaround as they prepare to travel to Devon to face Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

Due to the nature of the championship schedule, Duffy is adamant that they will have to mix up their pack in order for their high-intensity style to remain effective.

“The club have supported the manager well. They’ve brought quality to move us on. I thought (Liam) Gibbsy came in and made a really good move.

We’ve got Ui-jo, Adam (Idah) and Forshaw – we’ve got it now We can’t keep using the same players or the energy level will drop. “Saturday is now a massive opportunity to regroup and Plymouth is a tough place to go,” said the Ireland international.

“We’re excited. We talked in the locker room afterward and said forget it, go win Saturday. We’ll get right back to it.
