Paul Merson believes Jurgen Klopp should drop Cody Gakpo and start Darwin Nunez for Liverpool against West Ham United this weekend.

Merson has given Sportskeeda his predictions for Sunday’s game and is backing Liverpool to win 1-0.

The Reds have enjoyed an encouraging new season, making it four wins from their first Premier League match.

Jurgen Klopp has chopped and changed his frontcourt this season, with Mohamed Salah the only constant on the right.

Cody Gakpo started last time out and scored in Wolves’ 3-1 win before being replaced by Darwin Nunez at Molineux in the 55th minute. And Paul Merson believes Klopp should bench Gakpo on Sunday as Nunez is better suited for the match against West Ham.

Merson believes Klopp should drop Gakpo and start Nunez

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Merson explained why he is picking Nunez over Gakpo on Sunday.

“I think Darwin Nunez will start ahead of Cody Gakpo,” said the Arsenal legend. “The Uruguayan is calmer and simpler, while the latter weaves everything together and brings others into the game.

“They are both talented players in their own right, but Nunez is better suited to this game.”

Gakpo has impressed since his £37m switch from PSV in January. The Dutchman cemented his place in Klopp’s side last season after a slow start at Anfield.

But he has yet to find his best form this season and Nunez has had some promising displays.

In fact, the 24-year-old pulled off a memorable brace at St James’ Park before the international break.

Liverpool begin their Europa League campaign against LASK tonight, but Klopp will no doubt have one eye on the match against West Ham.
