Paul Merson has suggested Liverpool are a better team without Alexis MacAllister, based on the Reds’ performance against Wolves.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, the pundit believed Liverpool looked much better at Molineux when Mac Allister was subbed off as the Anfield side won 3-1 after going 1-0 down in the opening period.

The Argentina international, signed for £35m this summer, has had a mixed start to life at Liverpool, with Mac Allister yet to get started at his new club.

Despite his limited appearances, many fans are still confident that the midfielder will succeed, as Mac Allister is a player who has already proven his quality in the Premier League.

However, Merson’s comments could suggest that Liverpool could do better without the 24-year-old, and the results are pretty harsh based on what happened on Saturday.

The pundit said: “Liverpool also switched on the style after the break against Wolves and looked much better when they opted for Luis Diaz instead of Alexis Mac Allister.”

Mac Allister has made the big jump from Brighton and Hove Albion to Liverpool and the midfielder will need time to fully settle in at his new club.

The South American is clearly a talented player who could become world-class once he enters Jurgen Klopp’s system, as other Liverpool icons have done in recent years.

Although early signs have not been great, Mac Allister knows he has yet to reach his full potential at Liverpool and the previous performances could be explosive for the midfielder at Anfield.
