The 2023/24 squad has been locked in and we have our first look at Jurgen Klopp’s official Liverpool 2.0 photo.

There is something quite satisfying about a team photo, a snapshot preserved for both current and future generations.

Liverpool’s first team photo was taken in the 1890s and there have been clear changes in their posing over the decades, although it has been fairly consistent in recent years.

As in the 2023/24 edition, where Klopp, his senior players and staff pose for the camera at the AXA Training Centre.

The main departing positions have been mixed, with Virgil van Dijk now sitting next to the manager and Trent Alexander-Arnold on the opposite side after taking on the roles of captain and vice-captain.

In the photo, juniors Ben Doak, Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley will step in, all with roles this season – and hopefully the latter will be able to return from a back injury. Compared to the 2022/23 squad, they bring in three new faces and 10 player departures to ensure it looks new.

And it’s one that Klopp has spoken of his love for in recent weeks, especially after seeing the spirit behind the winning goal four times already.

“I said that this team is one that I already love and I think people could share that feeling in our opening five games,” Klopp writes in his notes ahead of the West Ham programme.

“At a club like Liverpool, you can’t love a team until the end of the journey, you have to start when it starts.

“Of course you see flaws and things that need to be improved. “You can have moments where it’s not so easy to believe, but hopefully our supporters can see with this team what it’s all about and what opportunities it can have.”
