West Ham United manager David Moyes is tired as he leaves Anfield wondering what his expectations might have been for a win at home to Liverpool.

Moyes also lamented the chances his side missed in the first half of the 3-1 defeat on Merseyside. Liverpool, on the other hand, moved up to second in the Premier League table after their latest victory, with five wins from their first six games this season.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Jarrod Bowen recovered a shot in front of the Kop on the stroke of half-time. But second-half strikes from Darwin Nunez and substitute Diogo Jota secured all three points for the Reds.

The Hammers held firm in the opening 45 minutes, with both Tomas Soucek and Michail Antonio guilty of missing clear-cut chances. Moyes said of his team’s performance: “In the first half we did a pretty good job but in the second half I was disappointed with the second goal.

“In the first half, we missed a few chances and we were already under pressure, but there were a lot of positives to take from the game.

“I think we came and went a little bit. But I’m more disappointed with the second and third goals, probably even more with the third goal because at 2-1 we’re still in the game and there’s still a game to go. We need take something out We played, put on different players with the hope of achieving a different goal.

Moyes is now 19 times without a win as a manager in the Premier League at Anfield. The Scot has now also lost 24 Premier League matches against Liverpool, the joint-highest tally between the manager and Harry Redknapp against Manchester United.

“I think when you come here and I’ve been here so many times… I think we played pretty well today and did a lot of good things,” Moyes said.

“Too often I come out here and say the same thing. So I’m a bit tired of saying it, but I have to say that Michail had a great chance with a header and the keeper made a great save for [Tomas] Soucek. . We had our moments, but so did Liverpool and that’s expected here.”

Before he added: “I thought Liverpool’s counter-attack attacked us more than we did against them because we controlled the game very well.

“You can come here and only have three chances and they have 10 and we have to hope they miss nine and we miss two.”
