Liverpool next face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League next Saturday and Gary Neville has made his contribution.

Gary Neville believes Tottenham Hotspur can benefit from Carabao Cup exit as they prepare to host Liverpool in the Premier League next Saturday.

Fulham knocked Spurs out of the competition on penalties last month, ensuring they have no part in the third-round games on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Liverpool are on fire and face Leicester City at Anfield on Wednesday.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have had a full week to prepare for the clash with the Reds and can be happy not to settle after a 2-2 draw with north London rivals Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Aware of how the Lilywhites’ lack of Carabao Cup football could play into their hands for next weekend’s clash with Liverpool, Neville said on his Sky Sports podcast: “It’s going to be very good [Tottenham v Liverpool]. Tottenham go into this game now having been knocked out of the Carabao Cup, which I think is a huge disappointment. This now gives them a real week to prepare for Liverpool. This is another test for them.”

Heung-Min Son’s contribution at the Emirates ensured Spurs did not leave empty-handed and maintained Ange Postecoglou’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season. Few predicted they would adapt so well to the loss of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich this summer.

Neville admitted that the London club appear to have turned into what Liverpool could soon see, adding: “I’ll be honest with you, before this game [the north London derby] I thought Arsenal were going to win and the difference in quality was too much. big I thought it was a bit of the old Spurs, when the going gets really tough, we see them dominate. And we don’t. So I’m pleasantly surprised as I sit here tonight.

– Tottenham will go into next week with confidence, but Liverpool are a tough team, a good team. They go into it in good form, Liverpool, and I think Tottenham fans will be really happy to have a good football team. They could easily wilt in the last ten minutes.
