Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca insists Liverpool have built the best ‘transition’ team in the world

Ahead of the game, the Foxes boss spoke highly of the Premier League

Jurgen Klopp has built the best counter-attacking team in the world, insists Leicester boss Enzo Maresca as he prepares to face Liverpool on Wednesday.

During Pep Guardiola’s two spells at Manchester City, Maresca played alongside some of the biggest duels in English football in the last decade.

And ahead of the Carabao Cup tie at Anfield, Maresca believes nobody can match the Reds in certain parts of the game.

“They have some new players but in terms of passing and blocking they have probably been the best team in the world for the last seven years,” said Maresca, who guided his side to the top of the Championship.

“Now, even if they have new players, they just need time to adapt and then they will move on. Anfield is a good environment for us.

Klopp revamped his midfield over the summer and so far the changes are working. Liverpool are just two points behind City in the Premier League despite Guardiola’s side winning all six of their opening games.

Maresca’s men have been equally impressive since last season’s relegation, picking up 21 points from their first eight games.

He added: “I appreciate the results because of course they are important. But I also look at how we play because we are improving. We are trying to update and change certain things, so there were a lot of positives.
