.Trent Alexander-Arnold has missed Liverpool’s last three games with a horn injury and Joe Gomez has been on the right side of Jurgen Klopp’s side in recent weeks.

Trent Alexander-Arnold returns to Liverpool after missing three games with a hamstring injury.

Alexander-Arnold has not played since playing in Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Aston Villa on September 3. The Reds managed to win all three games without their main right-back, beating Wolves, LASK and West Ham. Situation 3-1.

But Jurgen Klopp is desperate to bring back the England international as Liverpool face four games in 12 days. Liverpool assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders spoke to reporters ahead of their next game against Leicester in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night and he had some good news for the club’s vice-captain. “Trent practiced with us yesterday, but it was just Rondo and a counter-pressure ball game, but he was great,” Ljinders said on Tuesday. “You will see him soon of course. He is in team training, I am not sure if he is ready, we will see today.

“But when we talk about Trent, we have to give credit to Joe Gomez because the way he played the role, played the role in his own way, but was still able to come in, it was just incredible.

– His level and his attitude, just a big compliment to him because you are changing one of the best defenders in the world. He did very well indeed. It’s good and says a lot about our team that we can get it.”

Gomez has started Liverpool’s last two Premier League games at right-back and also came off the bench to replace Stefan Bajcetic in the Europa League opener in Austria. The 26-year-old defender is more comfortable in central defense but has regularly played on the right since joining the Reds in 2015.

He was given time in the role after Klopp decided to send specialist winger Calvin Ramsay on loan to Preston to gain experience. But while Gomez is a more than capable full-back, he cannot offer the same attacking threat as Alexander-Arnold. The 24-year-old scored 16 goals and provided 73 assists in 277 games for his boyhood club and his return to the squad is therefore an important addition. Liverpool will have to continue without midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who has not played for the club since April due to injury.

“He’s in good spirits, the healing process is going well, so that’s the most important thing at the moment,” Ljinders said of the 32-year-old.
