Liverpool fitness and injury updates ahead of Leicester FA Cup clash

The latest Liverpool injury news as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepare to face Leicester City in the Carabao Cup

Liverpool continue their encouraging start to the season on Wednesday night when they open their Carabao Cup campaign against Leicester City at Anfield.

The Reds beat West Ham 3-1 at home on Sunday to make it their fifth in six Premier League matches this season. LASK were beaten 3-1 away in the Europa League and Jurgen Klopp’s men were almost perfect in all competitions.

Klopp is expected to make changes against the Foxes, but may have to overhaul some first-team stars for the game.

Here’s the latest Liverpool injury news and possible return dates:

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold limped away and straight into the tunnel after just under 20 minutes in Aston Villa’s 3-0 win. Jurgen Klopp admitted afterwards that it was a hamstring problem and the Scouse defender has been out of action for three weeks since the game.

Running back Alexander-Arnold did not reach full training in time for West Ham but was able to return against Tottenham on Saturday 30 September.

Expected return date: end of September

Thiago Alcantara

Thiago Alcantara was close to making a long-awaited return to action before suffering a setback in training in August.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Thiago is due to return to training after Newcastle on August 27, but the Spaniard will return too soon and has not played since.

“Thiago had a small setback. He started training with the team and had a small setback, so we have to slow down there,” Klopp said.

“It’s not cool for him, it’s not cool for us, but it is what it is. Thiago will use the (September) international break to get up to speed, I’m pretty sure. That should hopefully be enough. Everything else is available.”

Thiago continues to work away from the first team, but Liverpool hope to have him back in full training soon. Expected Return Date: Unknown.

Conor Bradley

The young full-back showed potential in pre-season performances in Germany, playing 90 minutes in two matches.

He was then left out of the squad for Singapore after suffering a minor, unspecified injury and has not featured in the matchday squad since the start of the season, although he has trained as his team-mates have returned to England.

The former Northern Irishman is expected to feature in Klopp’s plans as Alexander-Arnold’s understudy, having proven himself in League One with Bolton Wanderers last year.

Expected Return Date: Unknown.
