Manchester United are looking to continue their defense of the Carabao Cup crown when they face Newcastle next month along with Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Erik ten Hag ended the club’s remarkable trophy drought at Wembley last season and his side are back in the hunt, with a host of Premier League side also eyeing their first silverware of the season. United will have to negotiate again with the Magpies in the fourth round tie in the week starting October 30.

United’s neighbors Manchester City, who have won the tournament four times in a row under Pep Guardiola, will have to wait to lift it again after their cancellation at Newcastle.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool won to stay in the group. The Gunners made the trip across London to face Brentford and held out for a hard-fought draw thanks to Reiss Nelson’s first-half strike. The Reds had to come from behind against Championship leaders Leicester.

Mikel Arteta’s side face West Ham, who are looking for their first success in the competition in 30 years, while the Merseysiders take on Bournemouth. Mansfield, the only one still in the Carabao Cup, face Port Vale in the high-flying third tier.

Chelsea have endured a terrible start to the campaign, but Mauricio Pochettino has found relief in the cup. His side travel to Stamford Bridge to face Brighton, who they have been heavily linked with over the past 12 months, and next face Blackburn Rovers in west London.

The Carabao Cup has been won by one of the traditional Big Six in the last decade and has only been denied three times in the last 20 years – Middlesbrough 2004, Birmingham City 2011 and Swansea 2013. City and Tottenham are the only two of the Big . Six to lose in the second round, which is now gone.
