Jurgen Klopp suggests that the 26-year-old Liverpool player was actually injured in last night’s game.

Jurgen Klopp claimed Liverpool had a slight injury problem ahead of last night’s win over Leicester City.

The Reds again came from behind to win 3-1 at Anfield. It’s their fourth straight win by the same scoreline and the third time they’ve had to come from behind to get it.

Despite the slow start, there were still plenty of positives for Klopp. And speaking in his post-match press conference last night, the Liverpool manager laid them out, including a special mention of match-winner Dominik Szoboszlai. But unfortunately, there was some disturbing news from the boss. Commenting on his decision to use Curtis Jones at right back, Jurgen admitted it was a bit forced. Looks like Joe Gomez has a knock on.

“We couldn’t play Stefan [Bajcetic] for a long time, we have to be careful with him,” the German began.

– Joey [Gomez] is fine over the weekend, but not today. It’s too early for Trent [Alexander-Arnold]. So I had to find solutions, and Curtis was always in my mind as a possible solution.”

The good news is that the 26-year-old looks set to return for Sunday’s game against Tottenham, but there is still a slight concern.

Gomez missed the Leicester game

From the sounds of things, the decision to leave Gomez out of the squad last night was simply a precautionary measure. But given England’s injury history, there may be cause for concern.

Hopefully not, because Gomez started the season looking like a man with a point to prove. The former Charlton youngster has operated at both centre-back and right-back so far, but has looked his best.

Of course, it’s still early days, but if Gomez can continue this form, he could soon be back in the England squad. However, whether or not that happens will largely depend on how much he plays for Liverpool.

With Alexander-Arnold expected to return for Sunday’s trip to London, Gomez looks set to be relieved of the right-back role in the near future. Whether or not he starts at centre-back may now depend on his form. It was a bit of a surprise to see Ibrahima Konate at the back, suggesting that either Joel Matip or Gomez will be available on Sunday.

If he goes back in time, it would be good to see Liverpool’s number 2 get the chance to go again. Get well soon Joe.
