Jurgen Klopp was furious with the Tottenham referee last night after the Reds lost their chance to go top of the Premier League with a highly controversial defeat by Spurs.

Joel Matip’s last-gasp own goal cost Liverpool a point, but Klopp was left fuming when his goal was wrongly ruled out and two men sent off in another dramatic display.

Curtis Jones saw red in the 25th minute after VAR Darren England convinced Simon Hooper to review a tackle on midfielder Yves Bissouma on the edge of the box and the referee converted his yellow card.

Then, in the 69th minute, substitute Diogo Jota received a second yellow card in as many minutes for a foul on Destiny Udogi, reducing Liverpool to nine men.

But Klopp was most incensed when Hooper canceled out Luis Diaz’s cross on goal in the 34th minute. The decision appeared to be wrong in subsequent telecasts, with PGMOL later admitting it was the wrong call due to “human error”. and said that it was “a clear and obvious mistake that should have resulted in a goal”.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Klopp said: Does it help? No. We had that situation in the Man United game (against Wolves last month) – did they get points from it? No. We don’t get points for it today, so it doesn’t help.

“No one expects 100 per cent correct decisions on the pitch. I think we all thought that when VAR came in it might make things easier. I don’t know why people act under so much pressure. Today, the decision to quit was made very quickly. It changed the momentum of the game.

He said he knew instinctively that Diaz was in the game when he scored. “The first moment I saw it, it was obviously not offside, but then it’s offside, so I’m trying to think they must have had better vision.” But at halftime we knew. Now it is easy to see with the help of ordinary pictures. But I’m pretty sure whoever made that decision didn’t do it on purpose.

Asked if Hooper had explained his decision, Klopp said: “How can the referee explain the situation? The linesman thought it was obviously worth a look and it was worth a look again and that’s why he raised the flag. In the good old days, even the linesman should. saw that it was not offside because we had those situations quite often and in hindsight it is quite clear… but again, nobody did it on purpose.’

Jones then told reporters about the red card: “Probably everyone in this room thinks it’s a clear red card, but I see it differently because I’ve played football and most of you probably don’t. “(He) had full power on the ball, he spins over the ball and then he hits a major part of the leg. When you see it in slow motion, it looks terrible. I think when you see it in real time, it’s even not that bad. So it’s a red card, but Curtis didn’t do it on purpose.

It’s very important for me that nobody starts thinking that we’ve had so many red cards that we’re a sack team, we’re not, we’re not.

How many games do you remember with 11 vs. 9? I watch a lot of football. It just doesn’t happen that often and we’re not in a game where we’re kicking Tottenham players. We try to play football. We did defend, but two situations, the first of which I think is clear, not yellow. I didn’t really see the second one back, but it doesn’t matter because if the first one isn’t yellow, maybe the second one isn’t and we’re still playing with 10 men.

– It made everything difficult but the boys really took advantage of it, it was incredible. The mindset we showed was second to none. I have never seen anything like it. It is highest.

– I think I learned so much, much more about my team than if we had won here and it would have been a bad performance. It was a really great performance in a way. We didn’t get points for it, but we still use it. That’s the plan.

Asked if the slow-motion replays made Tackles look worse, he said: It doesn’t really matter what I think about it because my thoughts don’t change anything. But when you look at it in slow motion, we can all agree that it looks completely different. The game is real-time, but let’s appreciate it slowly – it doesn’t make too much sense. And if they didn’t use slow motion, I don’t think we’d still agree in most situations, it’s just a different perspective. Whatever they do, I think they try to do it right.

And he said Jota’s second yellow card ended their chances of getting anything. – The killer of the game was another red card and many other decisions. I know it is often difficult for judges. I don’t think anyone should blame the referee for the extreme goal, it’s really not his fault, but he’s not responsible for a lot of other things I would say. But that’s it for now.

– We didn’t get a point, I think we deserved it. I didn’t understand it, but I got a lot out of the game and I help the kids feel it and get out.
