Liverpool will reportedly be without Cody Gakpo for a few weeks with the suggestion he could make his return after the next international break. Liverpool’s dramatic defeat to Tottenham was dominated by controversial decisions on the field from the officials.

A late own goal from Joel Matip spoiled what was otherwise a well-fought display from Klopp’s side. They were in with a chance of clinching a point courtesy of a well-taken goal from Gakpo before the break as Liverpool were down to 10 men.

But the Holland international injured himself during the act of shooting as he fell to the floor in agony during his celebrations. His equaliser came on the stroke of half-time, giving Liverpool’s medical team time to work on Gakpo’s issue.

However, he was unable to continue for the second half with Diogo Jota being brought on to replace him. Gakpo was spotted walking in a brace after the match with Klopp confirming it was a “really bad” injury.

Dutch media have now reported that Gakpo will be out for at least a few weeks with no chance he will play a part in his country’s international fixtures later this month. Liverpool return to Europe League action against Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday before a trip to Brighton on Sunday.

Klopp’s squad will then immediately break off for another international break, with Holland looking to secure their Euro 2024 qualification in games against France and Greece. Liverpool’s first game back after the international break is the Merseyside derby against Everton on October 21.
