Audio of the discussions between the referees involved in the VAR dispute during Liverpool’s defeat at Tottenham has been released.

To be more transparent, PGMOL would like to share the dialogue that took place when Luis Diaz’s goal was wrongly disallowed.

Liverpool have made a formal request to PGMOL to release the audio and want to hear the discussions that took place.

Although the release of the audio may be delayed due to continued scrutiny of Saturday’s events, it is a matter of when the audio will be released, not if.

The results of the review mainly concern Liverpool. PGMOL has not ruled out releasing audio of the incident ahead of the upcoming Mic’d Up, the organisation’s new monthly Sky Sports programme, which features previously unheard audio of decisions made between the officials and the VAR team.

Why was Diaz’s goal mistakenly blocked?

Dermot Gallagher says the decision to disallow Luis Díaz’s goal against Tottenham was a “very, very bad mistake”.

Immediately after Tottenham’s 2-1 win, PGMOL admitted there was a “significant human error” in disallowing Diaz’s strike, adding: “It was a clear and obvious factual error and should have led to a goal through VAR intervention.”

The goal was disallowed when VAR official Darren England mistakenly thought Diaz’s goal had originally been allowed to stand and told on-field referee Simon Hooper his review was complete.

Both England and his assistant VAR, Dan Cook, have been removed from matchday duties this week.

In a statement released on Sunday evening, Liverpool said it was “clear that the laws of the game were not correctly applied, resulting in a breach of sporting integrity”. The club added: “It is therefore disappointing that there was not enough time to make the right decision and that there was no subsequent intervention.

“In the meantime, we are exploring the options available because we have a clear need to move forward and resolve.”

So why didn’t the VAR team stop the game?

The VAR team probably realized their mistake within ten seconds of the restart with Tottenham’s free kick.

But when the game was played live again, the VAR team could not intervene.

The IFAB replay rules from the VAR position cannot be reinstated in such a case. Law 10 states: “After play has been stopped and restarted, the referee must not make a ‘review’ unless there is a case of mistaken identity or a possible televised offense involving violent behaviour, spitting, biting or highly offensive, offensive and/or misconduct. ”

However, the decision not to intervene and end the game received a lot of criticism.

According to Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Hooper was not informed of the foul until half-time.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said on the show: “It’s really hard for me that they have to know within two seconds because Tottenham took a free-kick and they didn’t go for it.

“I would shout at the referee that it is foul, but maybe they will say that they have to wait for the ball to come out. They will say that they followed the protocol, they will not let them stop. But I do not believe that. They panicked, they froze.
