The striker was forced off in the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Gakpo was injured shortly before the visitors’ first-half equalizer in stoppage time in north London and left the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in a daze.

According to The Athletic, Gakpo underwent a scan that showed he won’t have to wait much longer on the treatment table. But the £37m signing from PSV Eindhoven will miss Thursday’s Europa League Group E clash with Royal Union Saint-Gilloise at Anfield and Sunday’s Premier League trip to Brighton. Gakpo is also expected to be banned from Dutch international customs later this month. They will play France and Greece in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Liverpool will also be without striker Diogo Jota for the game against Brighton. The Portuguese was dismissed after he traded Gakpo to Tottenham for two reserve offences. The Reds cannot appeal the decision. Jurgen Klopp’s supporters hope the FA will overturn Curtis Jones’ red card but have appealed. Jones was handed the order against Spurs against Yves Bissouma. The midfielder was initially cautioned by referee Simon Hooper before VAR advised him to watch the incident from the sidelines, overturning his dismissal. However, both Jota and Jones can play against the Union in the Europa League.
