Jamie Carragher says he is fed up with things being slow and claims referees are not being shown the correct footage when asked to go to the VAR screen.

Curtis Jones received a yellow card for Yves Bissouma in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Tottenham. Referee Simon Hooper was later shown a red card after being told to review the play from his side of the pitch.

Liverpool appealed against the decision, demanding that his three-match ban be overturned, but Carragher does not see that outcome as likely.

However, the former Reds defender explained that the clip shown on the referee’s screen did not do justice to the context of the situation.

“I think it probably divided people depending on how you saw it,” Carragher admitted to Sky Sports. – My big problem was what was shown to the referee when he went to the VAR monitor and how they came to that decision.

“People feel that the judge will look at the monitor a second time, that’s not true, it doesn’t happen.

“He will be taken to the monitor to show why he made the mistake, we have to put that on the head with VAR.”

The first footage shown to the referee at Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium was footage of Jones’ strike during the clash, followed by a slow-motion version of the previous one.

Carragher added that Hooper – and referees in general – should follow such incidents “at full speed” so they can give a considered account of what they saw.

“It shouldn’t be the first strike, I don’t think, and when the referee goes there to look, he should look at the situation at full speed for me.” I’m tired of things slowing down,” he continued.

“I just don’t like the idea that the referee goes to the monitor and we think he’s watching and he’s not, but he said he had to change the decision.

“I don’t like it, I think you have to let them look at it and decide and give them the right angles at full speed.”

Liverpool have appealed the decision to overturn Jones’ three-match ban, but if the appeal is deemed “frivolous” the ban could be extended by an extra match.

The midfielder currently misses the matches against Brighton, Everton and Nottingham Forest and would also miss the League Cup fourth round against Bournemouth in added time.
