BREAKING NEWS: Jurgen Klopp wants Tottenham vs Liverpool replay after listening to  VAR audio transcript

While Jürgen Klopp admits some people don’t want to hear it, he says after Tottenham’s defeat on Saturday that “the only result should be a repeat”.

After Saturday’s events at Tottenham, there was only one big talking point when the manager addressed the press.

With the VAR audio now released relating to Luis Diaz’s goal that was never awarded, VAR changes announced and several managers giving their opinions, it was Klopp’s turn again.

Introducing Union SG’s visit to the Europa League, the manager insisted he was “not mad” at the incident but said he wanted a repeat. This is what he had to say:

“I didn’t change it at all, I didn’t care why things happen because I knew, I saw the result – we scored a goal and it didn’t matter,” began Klopp.

“I wasn’t expecting a sound and I was sitting there hoping I could figure out how it happened or whatever.

“I mean, as big and important as football is, it’s really important that we get it right.

“I mean, everyone involved, the on-field referee, the linesman, the fourth official and especially the VAR, didn’t do it on purpose.

“We must not forget that. It was a mistake, an obvious mistake, and I think in retrospect there would have been solutions.

“I can say now, and some people don’t want me to say, not as a manager of Liverpool, rather as a footballer, that the only result should be a repeat. It is.

“It probably won’t happen, the counterargument is that if we open that gate, everyone will be asking for it.

“I think the situation is so unprecedented, it hasn’t happened before, I’m 56 years old and after 50 years in football and I don’t always deal with it well, but I’m used to wrong decisions. “As far as I can remember, nothing like this has ever happened. That’s why I believe a remake would be the right thing to do.

– To counter the argument, if it happened again, I think a remake would be the right way to do it.

“Or the referee can call the coaches together and say we made a mistake but we understand it. Let Liverpool score and we’ll start from there.

“What makes it a little more special is that we conceded two minutes after scoring a normal goal. “As all things depend on each other, if the goal had been scored, the ball would have started in the middle of the field. It would have been different.

“That’s my understanding, I’m not mad at anybody. Not at all.

“It can’t be right for them, they made a mistake and they felt terrible that night, I’m 100% sure. No one needs more punishment.

“All the other decisions made today are very difficult for us.”

In the debate that dominated the Spurs game, Klopp was asked for his comments on whether Liverpool will ask the Premier League for a replay.

He said: “At this stage we are still reviewing the information we have.

“From my point of view, when you first encounter a situation, you try to understand it and then look for solutions.

“But that doesn’t solve the problem, there are points at stake. Therefore, upgrading would be the right decision for me.”
