Gary Neville responds to Jurgen Klopp, who wants a replay between Tottenham and Liverpool

Gary Neville has mocked Jurgen Klopp as he wants the Tottenham v Liverpool game replayed due to a VAR error.

Luis Diaz’s goal was wrongly disallowed in Liverpool’s crushing 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Saturday.

PGMOL has since released the VAR audio of Liverpool’s own goal and fans have captured one of the jaw-dropping moments of the incident.

League play can be replayed if the appointed committee decides that the referees have violated the rules of the game.

Klopp himself wants the game against Spurs replayed after Diaz’s goal was wrongly disallowed by VAR. Speaking ahead of his side’s Europa League game against Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday, he said: “Nothing like this has ever happened, so I think a replay is the right thing to do.”

Asked if Liverpool had asked for or wanted a Premier League replay, the German boss said: “At this stage we are still reviewing the information we have.”

He added: “The sound didn’t change it at all. It’s an obvious mistake. There should be solutions for that. There should be a remake. But that probably won’t happen. “The argument against that would be that it opens the floodgates. This is unprecedented. I’m used to wrong and difficult decisions, but nothing like this has ever happened.”

Neville reconsidered Klopp’s suggestion after giving a scathing response on social media. As for X, he wrote: “Can’t believe how Liverpool lost a win doing this!

“They were wronged by a shocking mistake. The end!”

Asked about his “sudden change of tone” on Saturday, he added: “As Liverpool’s statement stepped it up, he mentioned honesty and exploring options. Now we see they want a remake! It’s crazy.”

Both Klopp and Liverpool will have to put negotiations behind them again tomorrow as they resume their Europa League campaign. They return to Premier League action on Sunday when they travel to Brighton.
