Jamie Carragher calls ‘only positive’ vote in Liverpool’s cruel decision in VAR dispute

Jamie Carragher believes the audio release of Liverpool’s game against Tottenham Hotspur is further evidence that officials completely froze and panicked.

Professional Game Match Officials Limited released audio recordings of the referees’ discussions about Luis Diaz’s disallowed goal on Tuesday night. Liverpool asked for a referee’s vote after a first-half dispute in a 2-1 defeat.

The Reds were horrified by the incident, which was the latest embarrassing episode in the introduction of PGMOL and its VAR technology. After a quick VAR review, the goal was ruled out for offside and the match resumed, but replays clearly showed that Tottenham defender Cristian Romero was on Diaz’s side.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher said the officials were responsible for the wrong decision to ban Diaz, panicking and “freezing” when they realized their mistake. The former Reds defender believes the recordings will further support the release of the audio.

Gary Neville takes aim at Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp calls for Tottenham replay

Gary Neville accused Liverpool of “winning a loss” after Jurgen Klopp insisted his side’s game at Tottenham Hotspur should be replayed.

The Liverpool boss today hinted at a replay of his side’s Premier League match against Spurs, which they lost 2-1, after the controversial decision to allow Luis Diaz’s offside goal. Colombia’s effort was wrongly ruled out by the VAR team when they failed to overturn the decision on the pitch.

The Reds formally requested the audio recordings on Monday and their request was approved on Tuesday afternoon and released by PGMOL on Tuesday evening. In addition, PGMOL described the call immediately after the game as a “significant human error”.

Ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League clash with Union SG at Anfield on Thursday night, Klopp said he believed Saturday’s game should be replayed because “it never happened”. But responding to Klopp’s claims, Neville said the Reds must accept they made the wrong decision and move on.
