Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has invited young defender Luke Chambers to train with the club’s first team ahead of tonight’s Europa League clash.

The club shared a photo series of the team preparing to face Union Saint-Gilloise.

The Europa League is a great opportunity for Liverpool to give some of their fringe players a chance to play.

Although they prefer to play on Tuesdays or Wednesdays in the middle of the week, there are positives for the club.

They are also one of the strongest teams in the competition and should aim to win the tournament this year. Luke Chambers is a player that Jurgen Klopp appears to be keeping an eye on and could make his first Liverpool start today.

He made his debut for the club in the EFL Cup this season, coming on as a late substitute against Leicester City, but previously trained with the first team.

The left back faces a tough task of breaking into the side given how well Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas have played when called upon.

In pictures shared by the club, Chambers is among the first to work hard ahead of tonight’s game.

With Andy Robertson likely to miss Liverpool’s league game, it is more than likely that Kostas Tsimikas will get the nod today. The Greek defender is one of the strongest defenders in the league and constantly pushes Robertson to the side.

That leaves Luke Chambers in a difficult position after returning from a loan spell at Kilmarnock last season.

He was described by the manager at the time as “excellent” and made 16 appearances for Scotland before returning to Anfield.

He is highly regarded and Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso wants to sign him for Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

Klopp already wants to keep a close eye on Liverpool’s youngsters and Chambers is no exception. People like Ben Doak have shown that you can blow up a team if you take your chance when called upon.

With Curtis Jones and Alexis MacAllister suspended from the Premier League, Liverpool can name a slightly stronger line-up today.

It would be a real surprise if the pair don’t get the chance to stay sharp against Union Saint-Gilloise tonight.
