Manuel Sierra admits Liverpool were a “more stable” club to join, but was caught off guard by their late transfer bid.

oises Caicedo has signed for Chelsea from Liverpool having already promised his signature, the player’s agent has revealed.

Talks between the Blues and Brighton went on for several months before Chelsea were stunned by a shock bid from Liverpool late in the summer transfer window.

Caicedo, on the other hand, arrived at Stamford Bridge in a £115m deal after dramatically turning down a move to Anfield.

The midfielder’s agent Manuel Sierra has detailed Caicedo’s long transfer saga, which began with interest from Chelsea last window.

“What happened was that [Chelsea] couldn’t pay in January,” he told Ecuador’s soccer channel. “They couldn’t go crazy because they had to go with one or the other, they couldn’t sign both [Enzo Fernandez and Caicedo] and I didn’t know what Brighton would ask. Brighton didn’t even go to. sell for £1 billion.

Chelsea returned with interest in the summer but were unable to agree a fee with Brighton before a bid from Liverpool forced them to act – which Sierra described as unexpected.

“There was also a lot of doubt that Liverpool would not go to Chelsea,” the agent continued.

“The offers were the same in every respect, it was about values, principles and voting. When Liverpool’s offer came, Brighton were asked for time to allow Chelsea to respond, they did, beat it and he ended up at Chelsea having given Chelsea his word while a long time – Liverpool have always been interested. We had meetings in January and May but haven’t heard from them since May. Of course we were surprised that suddenly they appeared [with an offer] that they said they could not d

“The first thing we were told was that you have to go to a doctor in Liverpool tomorrow. Of course, what is our reaction when we haven’t consulted, we haven’t spoken, we haven’t seen anything since May. ?

– Our phones were clear all the time, we were clear until Chelsea offered the same terms as Liverpool. Like I say, they got over it, so no complaints there.

“It is very difficult, imagine that Jurgen Klopp writes to you, Liverpool calls you, we are talking about something very big, one of the best teams in the world, like Chelsea – with a more established and stable project than Chelsea today. . .

“When Liverpool came and approached like that, Moises was clearly confused, so was I, but Chelsea were on our side all the time asking us to leave, they wanted an hour to tell Brighton they could respond with an offer. They gave them an hour and it ended after two days of negotiation.
