5 key takeaways from Klopp’s post-union SG press conference After Liverpool 2 : 0 Union SG

Jürgen Klopp admitted his side were not at their best in the 2-0 win over Union SG, but also found time to talk about the positives.

Here are five key points from the manager as he reflected on his side’s win on Thursday night…

lack of “rhythm”.

Liverpool were far from their best on Thursday night and the manager cited “the start and the result” as the two things he was concerned about in his performance.

He was less impressed with how his side “lost their rhythm” early on, adding: “We know we can do better.”

Graven to Gravenberch

Ryan Gravenberch scored his first Liverpool goal in an impressive display against Union SG and the boss was visibly pleased with his early success.

“It’s really clear what a talent he is, he’s enjoying the situation, which is very important, he’s gaining confidence step by step and it’s really good to see,” confirmed Klopp.

“Everything is going in the right direction, it’s really helpful.”

Tottenham in the past

Klopp hit the headlines after suggesting earlier this week that the defeat to Tottenham should be replayed, but he was quick to set the record straight about his focus. “I think everyone here heard what I said, but everyone probably understood something else, but it’s nothing,” he joked.

“We are not children, we just had some questions to answer and in terms of focus, focusing the game was not a problem.”

Endo compensation explained

The removal of Wataru Endo at half-time raised a few eyebrows, but the boss revealed the move was “always” part of the plan.

The Japanese captain was alternately exchanged with Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, but from a manager’s point of view there is not much to read.

He explained: “If we could do it and nobody else was in trouble, I would let those three boys go.

Quansah greeted

Klopp singled out Jarrell Quansah for praise after his “really good” European debut, adding he has “no doubt” he will be a challenge against Union’s SG forwards. The manager admitted it was not a difficult decision to include the centre-back in the starting line-up and he will “get minutes” going forward.

Klopp added: “It’s a pleasure to watch his development because he’s right with us, he’s a very good footballer, he’s great with the ball.”
