The Dallas Cowboys are dealing with Leighton Vander Esch’s injury ahead of their Week 6 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. Because of that problem, the team will bring in former first-round pick Rashaan Evans, who could be the quarterback in his absence.

“Veteran quarterback Rashaan Evans is in Dallas today for a free agent visit, according to #Cowboys sources,” ESPN’s Jeremey Fowler reported Wednesday. “The former first-round pick could help Dallas’ depth with Leighton Vander Esch’s injury.

Evans was the 22nd overall pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2018. The former Alabama defensive end played four seasons in Nashville before playing one with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022. In his five NFL seasons, Evens has 476 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, five fumbles s and two interceptions. .

While Evens will provide solid depth ahead of the Cowboys’ Week 6 tilt against the Chargers, he won’t be a full replacement for the excellent Vander Esch should the team sign him. He suffered a neck injury in Dallas’ Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and reports say he could miss four to six weeks.

Before Leighton Vander Esch’s injury, the LB had 30 tackles, including one for a loss, and a fumble he returned for a touchdown. Even if the team signs Evans, second-year LB Markquese Bell will likely step in for Vander Esch. Under different circumstances, third-round rookie DeMarvion Overshow could have replaced the veteran, but he is currently on IR with an injury.
