Don Hutchison describes Liverpool star as ‘Rolls-Royce of a player’ and call him EPL player of season so far
Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has picked out the players and managers who impressed, surprised and disappointed him during the Premier League season.
Don Hutchison has named Liverpool summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai as his Premier League player of the season so far.
Liverpool fulfilled the £60 million release clause in RB Leipzig’s contract, making Szoboszlai the fourth biggest transfer in the club’s history. And despite the huge fee and pressure to take the No.8 shirt made legendary by his hero Steven Gerrard, the Hungarian captain certainly delivered.
Szoboszlai contributed to the Reds’ promising start to the campaign. He scored two stunning goals in 11 games to help Jurgen Klopp’s side finish fourth in the opening stages of the Premier League, reach the last 16 of the Carabao Cup and collect maximum points from their opening games in the Europa League group stage. While fellow midfield newcomers Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo have yet to find their feet at Anfield, Szoboszlai has been a big hit. So much so that former Liverpool midfielder Hutchison believes the 22-year-old is currently the best player in the English Premier League.
Speaking to ESPN, Hutchison said: “I think Dominik Szoboszlai is just a Rolls-Royce of a player. I saw him many times when he played in Hungary and in the Bundesliga.
“And I knew how good he was, but when he came into this Liverpool team, a team that already has several red cards and is still outstanding, I think he is the best player of the season.”
Hutchison appointed the player of Brighton and Hove Albion Roberto De Zerbi as his coach this season, Tottenham Hotspur has its biggest surprise and best move in playmaker James Maddison (for the amount paid for him – £ 40 million). Erik ten Hag and Manchester United are the biggest disappointments for Hutchison, who believes Liverpool hero Divock Origi has been the worst transfer to date since joining Nottingham Forest from AC Milan.
In addition to Szoboszlai, Hutchison chose Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker for the best team of the Premier League season so far.
