Liverpool are set to break the bank and club transfer record to sign Mohammed Salah replacement

Liverpool have reportedly named Leroy Sane as their top target to replace Mohamed Salah. Jurgen Klopp is ready to break the club’s transfer record to sign the Germany international next summer.

Liverpool rejected offers from the Saudi Arabian Professional League for Salah in the summer. Al-Ittihad were prepared to pay up to £200m to make the Egyptian star the poster child of Saudi Arabian football.

The Reds felt it was too late to sell the 31-year-old as they would not have time to bring in a replacement. Salah has remained committed to the cause and has started all eight Premier League games this season, scoring five goals.

But Liverpool know they cannot fight Saudi interests forever. And Sane appears to be the player they want if and when Salah leaves the club.

The Mirror claim Liverpool are ready to break their transfer record to land the 27-year-old. Darwin Nunez, who joined from Benfica last year for a fee of up to £85 million, is currently Liverpool’s most expensive signing. Real Madrid are also said to be interested in signing Sane. But Liverpool and Klopp have put him at the top of their wishlist and will be hoping to win any competition for his signature.

They want to bring him back to the Premier League in 2024, four years after he left Manchester City. Sane won two league titles, an FA Cup and three League Cups under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

He scored 39 goals and provided 46 assists in 135 matches for City. Bayern Munich signed Sane for up to £44m in 2020, but Liverpool will have to pay at least double the price to land him.
