Arsenal are set to compete with Liverpool for highly-rated Fluminense midfielder Andre Trindade, according to reports.

Mikel Arteta has already made some impressive signings this season, bringing in Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Ray.

Although Wood has been sidelined for the foreseeable future due to a serious injury, the other three new additions have contributed to Arsenal’s early success this season.

The Gunners have won six and drawn two of their eight Premier League matches so far and are joint top of the table with north London rivals Tottenham.

Despite his early success, Arteta is still looking to strengthen his squad in January and defensive midfield appears to be one of his main focuses. Fabrizio Romano revealed on Monday morning that the Gunners are still monitoring Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz, who has been linked with a move to the Emirates for some time.

It is claimed that Arteta will allow Thomas Partey to leave the club in January or at the end of the season if he can bring in a suitable replacement.

Arsenal are “competing with Liverpool” for Fluminense midfielder Andrei, according to Brazilian journalist Thiago Ferreira.

Ferreira insists the Gunners are “ready to fight” for the 22-year-old, who is regarded as one of the best young players in South America.

Andre plays mainly as a defensive midfielder and despite his young age already has a lot of experience. He played more than 150 first matches for Fluminense and won his first cap in Brazil in early 2023.

The Fluminense midfielder is believed to have a release clause in his contract, although it is currently unclear what number it is set at.

Elsewhere it has been claimed that Andre is worth around £30m, a price Arsenal sporting director Edu wants to find.

As previously reported by Football365, Liverpool want to sign Andres before the January transfer window even opens, so Arsenal will need to act quickly if they are to beat the Reds to his signature.

It will be interesting to see if Mikel Arteta releases a semi-concrete offer for the Fluminense star in the coming months, as suggested by Ferreira.
