Following the 49ers’ 19-17 defeat to the Browns, Matt Maiocco and Jennifer Lee Chan get up to talk about Brock Purdy’s unsatisfactory performance.

Deebo Samuel and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the safety for the Detroit Lions, are causing a stir online, not because of their on-field exploits.

Gardner-Johnson criticized Samuel X, formerly known as Twitter, for his role before last Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns. Samuel answered and they began long days online back and forth. Former 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman discussed the beef on Wednesday’s “Undisputed,” where he and fellow commentator Skip Bayless both agreed that the budding rivalry is good for the game as long as it stays on the field and both players stand by their conversation. in their game grid.

“I like it, it’s spicy. I like it,” Sherman said. “As long as you keep it on the football field and what we do on the football field. I like it when guys say, ‘Let me pick you up off the street…’

“Keep it on the football field and I’ll be fine with it. C. J. Gardner-Johnson, I’ll see you out there on the field, I’ll give you the job. Okay, Deebo tells him the same thing. We end up seeing who talks the talk and who walks the walk, and I like that. I like when you have to talk the talk and you have to walk the walk because Deebo is going to catch him in the open field at some point and Deebo is a physical player. C. J. Gardner-Johnson has had problems with friends before. I’m not mad at either guy.”

Bayless echoed similar sentiments as Sherman, comparing Gardner-Johnson’s trash talk to Houston Rockets forward Dillon Brooks in the NBA because he’s not afraid to hit (literally) below the belt, backing it up with his game.

“For the most part, C.J. Gardner-Johnson has walked the talk,” Bayless explained. “He pushes people until they go completely over the edge. It’s happened four or five times in games where people just lose it because he talks to them completely over the edge. He’s a master trash talker because he tends to go ‘below the belt.’

“He’s pushing the button to try to get him out of the game, to disrupt him… he’s saying what rotation are we going to see you in, like in the postseason.”

Gardner-Johnson, like Samuel, is a five-year NFL veteran and has earned a reputation as one of the league’s most talked-about linebackers. After spending three seasons with the New Orleans Saints to begin his career, Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the 2022 season, where he faced Samuel and the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

Although Samuel and the 49ers are scheduled to face the Eagles in Week 13, Gardner-Johnson and the Lions (5-1) are not on San Francisco’s regular-season schedule.

However, with the style of play of both teams, there is a chance that these two will have a chance to face each other in the playoffs.
