The starting left side of the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line may be rested for their encounter with the New York Giants on Sunday.

Speaking on 105.3 The Fan’s K&C Masterpiece show, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated that left tackle Tyron Smith and left guard Tyler Smith are “suspect” to play in Week 1 due to injury (via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News).

Jones said, “Probably Tyler a little more than Tyron.” “We hold off on that until game day. We’re not sure unless we observe.”

Tyron Smith was placed on the official injury report Thursday after rolling his ankle in practice. Gehlken noted that this is considered a minor problem.

Tyler Smith injured his hamstring during Monday’s practice. He had an MRI on Tuesday that confirmed it was a strain, reports David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

Jones told Shani and RJ earlier this week on 105.3 The Fan that the Cowboys felt comfortable with Tyler’s prognosis after it was fully vetted after practice. “You’re always worried at first,” Jones added, “but as he’s gotten used to it a little bit, hopefully it’s not a serious enough injury to affect him on Sunday.”

Tyrone’s injury is probably the more worrying of the two due to his age (32) and recent history. The eight-time Pro Bowler started just four games last season because of the tear and a total of 17 games over the last three seasons.

If Tyron doesn’t get the start, Chuma Edoga will likely get the start at left tackle. The 26-year-old signed with the Cowboys as a free agent in March. He played in 26 games over the past four seasons. Tyler Smith is entering his second NFL season. He was the Cowboys’ first-round pick (24th overall) in 2022 and started all 17 games as a rookie.

Asim Richards is on Dallas’ official depth chart as the backup left guard. The North Carolina alum was a fifth-round pick by the Cowboys in the 2023 NFL Draft. He started 38 games over his final three collegiate seasons. The Cowboys and Giants play at MetLife Stadium on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. IN. Dallas won both of the team’s games in the 2022 regular season.
