Nick Bosa is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, but the 49ers defensive end joked that he might not have the best memory.

The 49ers have not lost a regular season game since October 23, 2022 or Week 7 of the 2022 season. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year forgot the protocol for what a team goes through first after a loss on Thursday.

“It’s been a long time since a loss,” Bosa said Thursday. “I actually forgot what the routine was at the team meetings and everything. It was hard, we had to eat it in an extra day. We dreaded coming here for meetings.

“Last year we didn’t have a regular season for a long time and that happens, so we have to bounce back.”

It’s been nearly a full calendar year since Bosa returned to team headquarters in a regular-season loss, and even longer since San Francisco allowed 150 or more to an opponent. The 49ers defense, usually very tight in terms of rushing yards allowed, gave up 160 yards to the Cleveland Browns. Over the past 26 contests, including the playoffs, Bosa and the defense have allowed just eight teams to rush for 100 yards or more.

Only the Atlanta Falcons, who had 168 yards in Week 6 of the 2023 season, and the Browns rushed for 150 or more yards in that span.

While the entire 49ers locker room wasn’t looking forward to the game film of their loss to the Browns, they were already using the sessions as a teaching moment to get better. The goal is not to repeat the same mistakes. “When you think you’ve played bad, they’re never as bad as you think,” Bosa said. “And when you played brilliantly, it’s the same – you weren’t as good as you thought. It wasn’t that bad, but it certainly wasn’t perfect.”

The 49ers have an extra day to prepare for the Minnesota Vikings running game in the United States on “Monday Night Football.” at the bank stadium. Bosa and Co. looking for a result that would give them another chance to forget what happens after a regular season loss.
