Robertson for a while – Kloppand#039 training update ahead of Merseyside derby with Everton

The Reds now face a busy season, with a Europa League clash with French side Toulouse on Thursday, followed by a league visit to Nottingham Forest and a Carabao Cup fourth round trip to Bournemouth next weekend.

Klopp still has one or two major concerns as his side try to continue challenging for trophies on three fronts.

Here’s the latest Liverpool injury news and return dates…

Andy Robertson

Kloppand‘s most notable absentee is Robertson, whose usually all-time left-back required surgery on a shoulder injury he suffered during Scotland’s Euro 2024 international campaign against Spain last week.

Greece and Kostas Tsimikas have changed Everton and it looks like he will be needed for at least the next few weeks and the manager has admitted that Robertson will be sidelined for a while.

Klopp said before the derby: andquot; The decision goes to surgery. He’s had a small chance to try it, but after talking to several specialists, it looks like surgery is the best thing in the long run, which means he’ll be out for a while.

I don’t know exactly how long, but shoulder surgery is not easy. In my experience, he can train again very quickly, but not in the football sense, because you have to be careful, there are challenges and all kinds of things. He left for a while.andquot;

Possible return date: January 2024

Cody Gakpo

The Dutch forward was left out of the matchday squad against Everton after picking up a knee injury during last month’s controversial defeat at Tottenham.

But Gakpo has returned to training in Kirkby to prepare for the derby and will surely aim for a first-team return against Toulouse or Nottingham Forest this week, having missed Liverpool’s last three matches in all competitions. .

Possible return date: October 26 vs Toulouse

Thiago Alcantara

The Spaniard has not played for Liverpool since April when he underwent surgery on an ongoing hip problem.

He was due to return to training last month but has since suffered two setbacks in rehabilitation which have prevented him from making a proper return to grass. It remains to be seen when Thiago can finally return, as once he finally shakes off these setbacks, it will inevitably take time to build up fitness.

November or December seems most likely at the moment, but it’s very hard to say until we get another proper update from the boss.

Possible return date: December 2023

Stefan Bajcetic

Bajcetic returned in September with two appearances, having previously been sidelined since March with a thigh problem which curtailed the academy graduate’s impressive 2022/23 campaign.

The Spaniard started the Europa League game against LASK and the subsequent Carabao Cup game against Leicester but has not played since sustaining what was described at the time as a minor calf problem.

The injury did not appear to be serious and Klopp is likely hoping to compete for a return soon. Possible return date: 1 November against Bournemouth

Ben Doak

Doak did not play for Scotland and the Under-21s against Everton during his absence after picking up a muscle injury.

It remains to be seen how long the 17-year-old will take.

Ben Doak from Scotland has some muscles and Klopp said on Friday. So we’ll have to see (how long he’s out), but he’s not available over the weekend.

In better news for Liverpool, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is back on the bench after suffering a knee injury that required 12 stitches at the weekend.
