A major wrench was thrown into the 49ers’ injury situation on Wednesday when head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that quarterback Brock Purdy is in the concussion protocol.

Adding Purdy to San Francisco’s growing injured list certainly won’t make things any easier for the 49ers in their Week 8 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. The good news is that one of the team’s injured stars appears to be moving in the right direction.

Here’s a look at Wednesday’s training report:

Who Did not participate

QB Brock Purdy (concussion)

WR Deebo Samuel (shoulder)

LT Trent Williams (ankle)

Purdy was injured during the Week 7 loss to Minnesota. Samuel and Williams both missed that game with injuries they suffered in the Week 6 loss to the Cardinals. The 49ers already ruled Samuel out on Sunday. Purdy is under concussion protocol and Williams’ status is still being determined. He did not practice at all until Week 7 and was listed as questionable for the game before being declared inactive.

Full participation

LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (ankle)

RB Christian McCaffrey (oblique

It’s somewhat surprising that McCaffrey practiced fully after not practicing the first two days of Week 7. However, he played a full seven in the loss to the Vikings, and his participation on Wednesday suggests he will be full. to go against Sunday.

Did not participate (non-injury related)

Greenlaw appeared to struggle with something Monday night, but was not listed as injured on the practice report. He did not participate, but the team attributed it to rest.
