The 49ers may have a starting quarterback to face the Bengals on Sunday.

Brock Purdy returned to practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday’s session during the concussion protocol, according to multiple reporters.

Just because Purdy participated – probably in limited numbers – doesn’t mean he’s exempt. But that’s a positive sign because it means he’s making progress and could be on the field in Week 8.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Wednesday that Purdy began experiencing concussion-related symptoms on the flight back to California after Monday night’s loss to the Vikings. Purdy has completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,668 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions this season.

If Purdy is unable to play in Week 8, Sam Darnold will start in his place.
