Quarterback Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers is expected to start against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8 after clearing the concussion protocol late in the week. Despite some worries that Purdy wouldn’t be ready following the Monday night defeat to the Minnesota Vikings, the 49ers needed Purdy to be ready to end a two-game losing streak in Week 8, thus he took part in practice over the week.

As Dianna Russini of The Athletic noted, Troy Aikman provided another alarming injury update during the Monday Night Football broadcast, which raised concerns for Purdy and the 49ers in addition to the concussion.

“After speaking with quarterback Brock Purdy during pre-game warm-ups, Troy Aikman revealed on the most recent Monday Night Football broadcast on ESPN that the player’s elbow isn’t fully recovered. Set off the alerts. Purdy’s elbow is actually 100 percent healthy; he only needs to do extra pregame warm-up in his throwing arm to “get it right,” according to 49ers general manager John Lynch, who made this clarification on KNBR. On the field, Lynch added, he feels completely at ease. I confirmed this with a few team members, and everything lines up.

Week 8 status of Brock Purdy

Purdy, who suffered a concussion last week and is still recovering from elbow surgery, is ready to start as quarterback in Week 8. With 68 percent completion percentage and an 11-to-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio this season, Purdy has established himself as one of the league’s most dependable quarterbacks thus far.Following back-to-back losses to the Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns, Purdy is going through his first losing skid as a starting quarterback. The 49ers’ second-year quarterback from Iowa State, who started games in his rookie season last year and was the last pick in the draft, is inexperienced with this environment. He has won several games in a row as a starter.

We’ll be monitoring Brock Purdy’s elbow and injury status throughout the Week 8 encounter vs the Cincinnati Bengals.
