Former Chelsea captain John Terry has expressed regret for the way he treated Mohamed Salah during his time in Egypt and at the club. Salah, now Liverpool’s star man, has had a tough time at Stamford Bridge with just two goals and four assists in 19 games. However, he later found success elsewhere, with other players who struggled during their time at Chelsea, such as Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
De Bruyne looked for ways to open up the team and later joined VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga before returning to the Premier League. Salah’s journey back to the English Premier League included spells at Fiorentina and AS Roma before joining Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, where he became one of the league’s most prolific goalscorers. Reflecting on Salah’s time at Chelsea, Terry admitted he was disappointed in himself as captain for not supporting Salah and other players in their early struggles. He admitted that he could have helped them adjust and adapt to the demands of playing in a new environment.
It’s my one disappointment as captain because I think I adapted over time, when those guys were there I was probably very strong, and very disciplined on the group,” he said on the Obi One podcast.

To assist them in understanding the football terminology used in practice, he said that he provided a 20-word booklet with translations of essential words such as “man on,” “let it go,” and “one-two.” He did, however, admit that his approach on the pitch could have been too severe at times.
While Terry expressed regret for Salah’s problems at Chelsea, he also recognized the Egyptian’s incredible achievements since leaving the club. Salah’s development into a world-class player serves as a reminder of the necessity of providing young talents with support and direction, especially when they confront hurdles in a new environment.
Liverpool.com says: Kudos to John Terry for coming forward and acknowledging he could have done more. To be honest, Chelsea’s failures in allowing De Bruyne and Salah to leave go much beyond the captain’s control.
In any event, Chelsea’s demise was unquestionably a boon for Liverpool and Manchester City. It must be infuriating for those at Stamford Bridge to see how those two teams have dominated English football in recent years, with Salah and De Bruyne as their respective talismans.
