This Saturday, the Reds will travel to Luton Town, who have a number of injury problems, for the first time since 2008.

Following the international break, Liverpool will return to Premier League play on Sunday afternoon looking for their fifth consecutive win in all competitions.

They’ll have to make do against a team suffering from a lack of fitness, with manager Rob Edwards describing his squad as “down to the bare bones” in his pre-match press conference.

Despite missing seven senior players for the Reds’ visit, Edwards informed the media that he will not be “moaning” about his team’s absences.

“Unfortunately, no one is returning, so we’re back where we were, but the guys are making good progress, just not quite ready to make an impact,” revealed the Luton boss, as quoted by Luton Today.

“So it’s down to the bare bones, but there are a lot of teams in this situation right now.”

“It’s difficult, but you won’t hear me complain about it.”

“It gives other people opportunities, and we have to make sure we’re working as hard as we can.”

“We believe in the group and the squad.”

“In team sports, injuries are unavoidable, and that’s when we need the entire team.”

“We’re working with a really good youth team and some really good young players who are getting some good experience as well, helping us in training and being available to be on the bench.”

“So that’s just where it’s at at the moment, but I don’t think we’re the only club in that sort of situation.”

Long-term absentees Amari’i Bell, Reece Burke, Mads Andersen, and Dan Potts will miss the game, as will Jordan Clark, Luke Berry, and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Liverpool will be looking to take advantage of the somewhat diminished Luton team in order to keep the winning spirit alive at the club in 2023/24, as they look to remain competitive on all fronts.
