Trent Williams, the 10-time Pro Bowl left tackle for the San Francisco 49ers, is listed as questionable for his team’s road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, and he’s not a “slam dunk” to play after missing the past two games with a right ankle injury.

“The 49ers will make a decision on left tackle Trent Williams (questionable, ankle) closer to Sunday,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on Saturday.

“He’s still experiencing discomfort, so he’s not a slam dunk to play — but will try to push through against the Jaguars.”

Wednesday was a rest day for Williams, but he practiced on Thursday and Friday.

Williams’ injury was first labeled as a low-ankle sprain, according to David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone. However, at a Nov. 8 press conference, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan disclosed to reporters that there is more to the injury.

“I believe there is, obviously.” I mean, he’s got a lot of history with things. It didn’t manifest as a high or anything, but when you’ve had that over your career, there are a number of things that, given how long it’s taken to heal, are more than a low.”

Williams was hurt in the first quarter of the 49ers’ 19-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns on October 15. He briefly departed but returned to complete the game.

The 49ers have struggled without a healthy (or active) Williams, losing their last three games after winning their first five.

If Williams is unable to play, the 49ers will turn to Jaylon Moore to guard quarterback Brock Purdy’s blindside. In Williams’ absence, the third-year pro from Western Michigan has started the last two games.

The game against the 6-2 Jaguars will begin at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
